A Practical Guide to Navigating Menopause in the Workplace

Are you fully aware of your legal obligations in relation to peri and menopausal staff in the workplace?

The Equality Act 2010 prohibits discrimination on the grounds of sex, age, and disability, and this largely covers discrimination related to menopause.

New guidance on menopause in the workplace has now been released by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).  The guidance clarifies your legal obligations to supporting women in the workplace experiencing menopause symptoms, and provides tips on making reasonable adjustments and fostering positive conversations about the menopause with workers.

“An employer understanding their legal duties is the foundation of equality in the workplace. But it is clear that many may not fully understand their responsibility to protect their staff going through the menopause. Our new guidance sets out these legal obligations for employers and provides advice on how they can best support their staff.”

Baroness Kishwer Falkner, Chairwoman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission

The EHRC guidance follows a recent CIPD report, Menopause in the Workplace: Employee Experiences in 2023, that found 73% of employees surveyed had experienced symptoms related to menopause transition. This can have a significant impact on an employee's ability to work and can even lead to absenteeism. The report also found that less than 40% of employees feel that their employer is providing them with enough information and support about menopause. This suggests that there is a need for employers to do more to help their peri and menopausal employees.

This one day course will provide you with the knowledge and tools you need to create a menopause-friendly workplace. You will learn about the legal obligations in relation to peri and menopausal staff, and how you can comply with the recommendations from the CIPD report and EHRC guidance. This will include discussions on practical ways to support your menopausal employees, such as:

  • Providing information and training about menopause

  • Offering flexible working arrangements

  • Encouraging open communication about menopause in the workplace

  • Creating a supportive work environment

Join us for this important conference and learn how to create a menopause-friendly workplace for your employees and colleagues.
